What to Do if You Think Your Pet is Experiencing an Emergency

Once you’ve identified a possible emergency situation with your pet, your next steps can be vital for the health and wellbeing of your pet. If you’re unsure of what to do next, the team at Animal Emergency Center has you covered.

Call Ahead

Calling our office prior to arrival will allow our support staff and veterinarians to best support you and your pet during a dog or cat emergency situation. In many situations, there may be initial actions you can do as a pet parent to help your dog, cat, puppy, kitten, or other companion pet.

Remain Calm

In times of high stress or pain, pets can react outside of their normal behavior. Stay calm and careful with your pet. Some common reactions of an ill or injured pet can include growling, attempts to bite or scratch, or attempts to flee. Staying calm and collected can be difficult when your dog or cat is hurt, but that will ultimately support their wellness.

Follow Instructions

When you contact the office to alert them of your pet's emergency, instructions may be provided to help you apply first aid or otherwise make your pet more comfortable until you’re able to bring them to the vet. Follow the instructions provided carefully. If you don’t understand something, be sure to ask for clarification.
